Welcome!
Welcome to the Web site of the International Law and Practice Section (ILPS) of the North Carolina Bar Association. This Web site will provide you with information regarding our Section and its leadership as well as links to international publications and resources that are available via the Internet.
As you review this Web site, you will find that our Section serves as an educational, legislative, and networking resource for practitioners engaged in cross-border issues. We review current developments in international law and practice, including market developments in the Americas, Europe and Asia and other political and trade-related issues, and we play an active role in monitoring state, federal and foreign laws and regulations that affect the international practitioner.
The ILPS publishes the International Law Newsletter quarterly, which features treatment of important international practice topics and other information of interest to cross-border practitioners. Current and archived copies of the newsletter are available on this Web site. In addition, the section organizes MCLE accredited programs as well as other programs and pro bono activities around North Carolina sponsored or co-sponsored by the ILPS. Information regarding these programs is also included on the Web site.
When appropriate, the ILPS sponsors legislation and makes legislative and regulatory recommendations. We also serve as a liaison with law schools and students in our state as well as other organizations that promote international matters, such as the North Carolina Department of Commerce.
Our Section strives to assist lawyers involved in international legal matters by being a source of knowledge on topical matters, a conduit for connecting other members of the bar who are facing international issues, and a bridge with the law schools and younger lawyers to promote and guide the next generation of lawyer who have an international practice. Equally important, our Section seeks to create avenues for our members to give back to the community through pro bono projects that benefit from our members’ special skills. We invite you to provide your comments and questions regarding our Section, and we believe that being a part of our Section will enhance your professional development.
With best regards,
Scott Hile
